A Kindness Surprise For families with kids of all ages
READ "More flowers?" Tess asked as Mom came home with two new marigold plants. Mom laughed. "I know. We have enough flowers. I thought we could bring these to Grandma. I'll meet you outside." While Tess waited for Mom on the steps, she saw her neighbor, Mrs. Martin, come out of her house. Mrs. Martin carefully moved her walker to her mailbox and then looked inside. But the mailbox was empty. Tess watched as she slowly walked back to her house. "Ready to go?" Mom asked. "Mom, does Mrs. Martin have grandchildren?" Tess asked. "Hmmm . . . I don't think so. Why?" "Well, I was thinking. If we gave only one marigold plant to Grandma, we could surprise Mrs. Martin with the other!" "Tess, that's a wonderful idea." Tess wrote a short note and ran to Mrs. Martin's front porch with the plant and the note. She rang the doorbell and ran back to her house. Mrs. Martin opened her front door to find the marigold plant with the note. She read the note out loud, "From your secret friend!"
