Ascension Lutheran Church

Building Use Policy

 

1.       Ascension Lutheran Church’s (ALC) Building Use Policy guidelines are the guidelines by which congregation members, community organizations and others may utilize our facilities in a manner consistent with our stated mission.

 

2.       Scope:  The policies here apply to all church buildings and church property.

 

3.       Priorities of use shall be (1) congregational use and religious education, (2) civic activities, (3) non-profit organizations, and (4) others.

 

4.       Requests for use by outside groups must be made one month in advance to the church office for review by the building use committee.  Standing meetings are to be reviewed quarterly by the building use committee.

 

5.       Approval Procedure:

a.       Ongoing meetings must be approved by majority of the building committee.

b.       At pastor’s discretion one time use consistent with 1 above with notice to the committee may be allowed on short notice.  Pastor will refer all other requests to the committee.

c.       The church office shall maintain a building use calendar.

d.       This approval procedure shall not apply to regular church meetings.

 

6.       Criteria for Outside Groups:

a.       Outside groups must not teach, advocate, or engage in activities contrary to congregation’s understanding of the faith.

b.       Illegal activities shall not be tolerated.

c.       Requests from all for-profit groups will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

d.       We reserve the right to refuse building use to any individual, group or organization.

 

7.       Proper supervision must be provided for any group with children.

 

8.       The individual requesting use assumes responsibility for any damage to person or property.  A LIABILITY WAIVER IS REQUIRED to be on file for all outside groups for the behavior of all persons in attendance.

 

9.       No smoking or tobacco use is permitted inside any of the buildings.

 

10.   Alcoholic beverages are not allowed unless approved by the building use committee.  Champagne or wine may be served in the parish hall only.

 

11.   If Holy Communion is to be part of a wedding service, ALC Pastor will preside.

 

12.   Food shall be consumed in designated areas only.  All food and supplies must be provided by the group unless other arrangements are made.

 

13.   Each group is responsible for their setup and cleanup following use.  All equipment shall be returned to its original place.  All kitchen equipment shall be washed and returned to the storage area.

 

14.   No tacks, tape, nails or other material that may damage church property shall be used.

 

15.   Groups may use only those facilities agreed upon.  Church instruments, other equipment, and kitchen facilities shall not be used without prior approval.

 

Procedures for Use of the Kitchen

 

Countertops              Shall be cleaned of all liquid spills and food particles

 

Sinks                          Shall be cleaned with soap and water.  Do not leave a greasy ring in the sink.

 

Stove & Ovens          Shall be cleaned of all spills and residue.

 

Dishwasher               If dishwasher is used, dishes shall be unloaded and replaced in storage area.

 

Microwave                 If microwave oven is used foods shall be covered with plastic wrap or a paper towel so that spills will not occur.  Spilled food in the microwave shall be cleaned up immediately.

 

Equipment                 Any equipment or utensils used shall be cleaned and returned to the proper place in the kitchen.
