Ages: All
Topic : Fun, playfulness, games
Here's an activity that turns work into fun for your kids and produces a
yummy snack.
Materials
• 1 cup milk
• 1 cup heavy cream for whipping
• 1/2 cup sugar
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• 1/8 teaspoon salt (optional)
• Mix-ins such as nuts, chocolate chips, or fruit as desired
• Clean 1 lb. and 3 lb. coffee cans
with lids
• Mixing bowl
• Spoon
• Ice
• Rock salt
How to Do
#1 Mix milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, and 1/8
teaspoon salt (not rock salt) in a mixing bowl.
#2 Add chopped nuts, fruit, or chocolate chips as
desired.
#3 Pour this mixture into the smaller coffee can
and cover tightly with the lid. Set this can inside the larger can and layer
ice and rock salt around it. Place the lid securely on the larger can.
#4 Roll the can back and forth to mix the
ingredients. This should be done for 15 minutes. Don't roll the can on grass
because the salt water will burn it.
#5 After about 15 minutes of rolling, remove the
smaller can from the larger one. Dry the salt water from around the can lid
before opening the lid. Remove the lid and stir the mixture. It should be
thickening at this point.
#6 Return the smaller can to the larger one and
add more ice and rock salt. Continue rolling for 15 more minutes.
#7 Repeat the steps for removing the small can
from the larger one. Remember to wipe off the salt water from the small can.
Remove the lid. The ice cream should have a firm, creamy texture.
#8 Spoon the ice cream into bowls and enjoy your
creation.
Note: Roll the can on a flat surface. Do not roll
on grass because the salt will burn it.
