Report of the Council President
What a blessing it has been for me to be in this position. As I will finish my term in July, I can only see great things ahead for our church as we go into 2004. There were a number of changes which came about in 2003 in our church and for the most part they were on the positive side.
We were faced with some deep concerns, but because we are people of God we were able to deal with them. They did not always end in a way which we would have liked, but with God’s help we were able to move one.
We were able to have a better situation as far as our financial area is concerned. We met our budget requirements and were even able to increase our budget for 2004, which reflects on how our members feel about our church.
It is exciting to see all the things that are happening at Ascension. I am very thankful for all the activities which are ongoing in our church and our activities in our community. Our members are involved in a number of activities which enables us to carry out the work of our Lord.
The different reports from our council members will reflect on the many different ways in which we as a church are blessed. I urge you to read them and offer a word of thanks to those members.
As we go forward into 2004 I would ask each of our members to evaluate ourselves and our relationship to the mission of our church and where we want our ministry to take us. In so doing we are reminded that it takes the help of the whole congregation, each and every member, to make our ministry work. The church is its members and you are the ones who will say if we move forward or go backwards as there is no standing still when we are doing the Lord’s work.
Let each of us look and see where we can serve; there is no job too small or too large, they all need taking care of. We all can do something. Have a say in how our ministry here at Ascension is conducted, get involved, be a volunteer. Don’t wait to be asked. I thank the congregation for allowing me to serve you this past year.
